Nigeria’s Super Eagles have continued their woeful run under current coach Jose Peseiro by losing 4-0 to Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal in a friendly match at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.
Despite fielding a strong lineup, with Fenerbahce star Bright Osayi-Samuel getting his national team debut, the lacklustre eagles could not make any impact in the game.

Rather, they were shambolic from the start, and it did not take long before they fell behind.
Manchester United duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes combined for Portugal first in the 9th minute. The latter then bagged his second goal of the game in the 35th minute, converting coolly from the spot after Osayi-Samuel handled the ball in the box.
The Super Eagles looked better in the second half, and they had a chance to half the deficit from the spot. However, Emmanuel Dennis missed his spot-kick.
Nigeria paid for the miss minutes later, with Goncalo Ramos and Joao Ramos scoring in the 82nd and 84th minutes to complete the 4-0 result.
The game was Jose Peseiro 6thmatch since he was appointed Super Eagles head coach on May 15, 2022.
Since his appointment, Peseiro has won 2 matches, drew 1 and lost 4.
Peseiro’s two victories came in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone (2-1) and Sao Tome and Principe (10-0).

Under the 62-year-old, Nigeria has lost to Mexico (2-1), Ecuador (1-0), Algeria (2-1) and now Portugal (4-0).
Recall that after losing to Algeria despite taking an early lead, Peseiro had said: “I am more confident than before after this match.
“One more step to that challenge to win the AFCON. Of course, before that, we need to qualify, we need more camping, we need more friendly matches because we want our team to play at a high level.
“For that, we need to improve our organization, try new dynamics, new set pieces and work hard and believe that we can be better. We have the talent but we have to improve our organization.”
