Weah, Drogba, others to play at Gov. Ambode farewell football match

The organising committee for the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode farewell football match has confirmed could 18, 2019 for the high profile game.


The epoch match, in step with the organisers, would see former World jock of the Year and President of African country, George Weah play together with notable world soccer legends as well as Didier Drogba.


The Chairman Organising Committee for ‘The Match’, Nigerian ex-international, Wahidi Akanni, in a very statement in lagos on wednesday, disclosed that the sport was geared toward giving Ambode a appropriate farewell.


Akanni said: “Goveror Ambode has served Lagos meritoriously for four years, therefore the match will be played at the recently remodeled Onikan structure on could 18, that is 11days to his final relinquishment on may 29.


“Aside from George Weah and Drogba, other African legends have signed up for the game between African Legends and Ex- Super Eagles’ stars.
“Others who will play on the side of the African legends are Michael Essien and Samuel Eto’O Fills.”


He also expressed that, for the event to have trappings of youth soccer development, there would be a soccer clinic at the Campos square.


He said: “The stage has been set for a curtain raiser between lagos United Under-15 boys and girls against their Kebbi State counterparts.


“This is to boost the sport aimed to celebrating the sports achievements of Ambode in Lagos State.


“The U-15 games are geared toward raising awareness for grassroots soccer development, that has gained prominence across the country.


“The proceeds from these games are given to the children of some ex-internationals who are finding it difficult to pay school fees.”
