The result of the just concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates has been released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
The examination which was taken on the 29th August 2019 to October 2, 2019, had a total of 94,884 candidates who wrote it.
Head of the Nigeria National Office WAEC, Mr. Olu Olanipekun, at a press briefing, gave a breakdown of candidates’ performances.
He said that 91,225 candidates have their results fully processed and released while 3,659 candidates have a few of their subjects still being processed.
“The analysis of the statistics of the performance of candidates shows that out of the Ninety-Four Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-Four (94,884) candidates that sat the examination, 49,679 candidates representing 52.36% obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.
“33,304 candidates obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics.”
Mr. Olanipekun added that 9,457 candidates were reported to have been involved in one form of examination malpractice or the other, and their cases will be presented to the appropriate Committee of Council and the decision of the Council on their cases will be communicated to the affected candidates within the shortest possible time.
Meanwhile, he stated that “110 candidates with varying degrees of special needs registered for the examination, out of which 38 were visually challenged, 15 had impaired hearing, 12 had low vision, 3 were physically challenged and 8 were spastic cum mentally challenged.”
He added that all the special needs candidates were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination and their results have been fully processed and released along with those of other candidates.
The WAEC boss explained that candidates can check their results on the council’s website: www.waecdirect.org with their Result Checker PIN and Serial Number contained on the candidate’s Smart Identity Card used during the conduct of the examination.
