The coach of Napoli, Gennaro Gattuso has been sacked by the club after they could not make it to next season’s Champions League due to their fifth-place Serie A finish.
Napoli, the club of Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, dropped out of the Champions League places on the last day of the season as they played 1-1 draw at home to mid-table Hellas Verona, while Juventus recorded a 4-1 victory to displace Napoli in the Serie A table.
The result means thst Napoli will play in Europa League football.
While confirming Gattuso’s departure on Twitter, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis tweeted: “Dear Rino, I am happy to have spent the last two seasons with you.
“Thanking you for the work done, I wish you success wherever you may go.
“I also send a hug to your wife and children. Aurelio De Laurentiis.”
Aurelio’s tweet was later re-tweeted by Napoli’s official account with a caption that read: ‘Thank you, boss!’ alongside a picture of Gattuso.
Gattuso took over from Carlo Ancelotti as Napoli coach in December 2019 and won them to Coppa Italia trophy in June 2020.
