US Democratic Senator, Jon Ossoff, thanks Nigerians that helped him win in Georgia

The newly-elected United States of America Democratic Senator from Georgia, John Ossoff, has thanked Nigerians and other Africans who helped him win his campaign.

In line with the projections of NBC and ABC, Ossoff won over incumbent Republican Senator, David Perdue with around 25,000-vote margin.

Ossoff’s win, coupled with Democrat Raphael Warnock’s win over Republican Kelly Loeffler in a recent parallel runoff has given the two parties 50 seats each in the Senate.

As a result of the equal number of seats, the decision of the Senate in the case of a tie will be made by the Vice President, who happens to be the ceremonial head of the Congress.

While thanking the Nigerian-American health care workers group in a viral video, Ossoff said: “Thank you to the Nigerian-American health care workers group.

“It has been a pleasure getting to know some of you over the last few months.

“Thank you for all your support.

“I want to recognise in particular my friend, Dr. Stanley Okoro, who has brought so many of us together.

“I want to thank Ufor, Eric, Atunwanya, Segun, Adeina, Edafe, Sojie and Tunji.

“All of the Nigerian-American and African diaspora members in the community who have helped get people out to the polls to win in Georgia.
