Health and education workers in Newfoundland and Labrador who chose not to get vaccinated against COVID-19 can go back to work as the provincial government has lifted its vaccination requirements for public servants.
The provincial government recently announced it would be lifting the requirement and the province’s biggest health authority, school district and university have followed suit.
According to Eastern Health, the policy was implemented to protect patients, healthcare workers and the community. The health authority reveals the vaccine mandate could be reintroduced if the province’s COVID-19 epidemiology gets worse.
The lifting of the mandate implies that 21 unvaccinated Eastern Health employees that are on leave without pay can go back to work, according to the health authority.
In the same vein, Memorial University and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District will lift their vaccine requirements.
