Twitter is planning to start charging businesses on the platform $1,000 a month to keep their gold-verified checkmarks.
According to The Information, organizations and companies that fail to pay the fee will lose their badges. Internal messages viewed by the outlet revealed that it would cost $1,000 a month to retain gold badges and another $50 a month for every ‘affiliated account’.

That claim confirms a leaked email from a Twitter staff to an unknown organization in which the organization was offered early access to ‘Verification for Organizations.’ In the email, dated February 2 and shared by Matt Navarra, a social media analyst, the staff, Evan Jones, quoted the $1,000 cost of subscription and gave the organization a ‘gold checkmark’ in return.
The decision is the latest of many that the new owner and CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, has taken in an effort to boost revenue and make the company profitable. It came months after Musk made the controversial decision to charge ordinary Twitter users $8 per month for its classic blue checkmarks.
