As the United Kingdom restricts visas for family members of foreign students who want to pursue Masters Degree, a YouTuber who tutors Nigerians on studying in the UK reveals some Nigerians are not seeking new qualifications, but to begin a new life abroad.
In a viral video that was recorded from his home in a Birmingham suburb, Emdee Tiamiyu, a YouTuber who sells himself to many subscribers as YouTube’s number one plug in “scholarships, fellowships and japa-ships” talks said japa, is the Yoruba term for leaving. He said it is a buzzword among Nigerians who are eager to escape their country’s problems with corruption and poor governance.
He said: “People are looking for alternatives. They want to escape Nigeria. The student route is more like an answered prayer.”
While talking further, he said it is a “big bracket that’s able to take a lot of people, the ordinary people”.
