Swift Networks, a broadband service provider, has partnered other leading global brands to distribute 10,000 free hotspots in a number of institutions in Lagos.
This is the first phase of the free broadband Wi-Fi service, Red Cheetah, recently unveiled in Lagos.

Swift, in a statement, said Red Cheetah, would start with an initial 10,000 hotspots distributed all over the state, supported by advertising revenue from leading global brands and partners.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Swift Networks, Charles Anudu, the Red Cheetah service model follows in Swift’s tradition of demystifying and making technology to work for Nigerians, so that they can hook up to the digital world to explore, work and entertain more efficiently.
According to him, the plan to roll out an initial 10,000 Red Cheetah hotspots in Lagos will be the largest Wi-Fi footprint of its kind anywhere in Africa.
He added that the service would cover many verticals such as schools, airports, buses, taxis, shopping malls, bars, clubs, restaurants, open markets, hospitals and places where Nigerians needed to research, catch up on work and play.
The statement said Red Cheetah was expected to help deepen Nigeria’s broadband penetration and aspiration for universal Internet access for greater social equity and inclusion.
He stated that the company was excited to pioneer the Red Cheetah service model, adding that it would rapidly extend the service to more cities in Nigeria and the continent.
The Swift CEO said the security of every user’s access was enhanced by the Red Cheetah App, which established a distinct and secure Virtual Private Network connection to the Internet for each device on the platform.
Anudu said, “I strongly believe that this dogged work of over two years is the ideal model that will empower Nigerians to live their most productive lifestyles in a digital world. I am extra proud that everything about Red Cheetah is Nigerian and shows what we can achieve when we commit to solving the problems of our society taking our context into consideration.”

The Chief Operating Officer, Swift, Mr. Chukwuma Okoye, described the Red Cheetah app as a revolutionary service powered by Swift, stating that it was fast, secure, reliable and supported by legendary sponsor brands with strong commitment to corporate social responsibility to Nigeria.
He said prospective customers had to download the Red Cheetah app first before they could have access to enjoy the services.
He added that a mandatory one-time online registration process was involved, where users were allowed to register multiple android devices to access the Internet via Red Cheetah.
