A Spanish Tourist was killed by falling debris while visiting the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence, one of the Renaissance city’s most famous churches.
The 52-year-old man was hit by something falling from the ceiling of the church, the ANSA news agency said on Thursday.
He was declared dead at the scene by emergency services, it added.
ANSA news agency reports that neither Florence’s health authority nor its city council was available for comment.
Santa Croce features art by Giotto and Donatello and is known as the Temple of the Italian Glories, hosting the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli, and a cenotaph for Dante.
The church has been closed until tomorrow, media reports said.
