South African fugitives, Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana, have been arrested by Tanzanian police after more than a year on the run.
According to report, the duo was helped in their escape by a Mozambican national that helped them flee the country. However, Tanzanian police were informed about their whereabouts by an informant that spotted them in a village near the border.
According to a source, police officers kept a low profile by coming to Tanzania as tourists to track the fugitives’ movements. The officers monitored the duo for many weeks before eventually apprehending them in a remote area of the country. Bester and Magudumana were later extradited to South Africa to face trial for their crimes.

Meanwhile, South African police are probing a case of murder after DNA analysis revealed that the body discovered in Bester’s cell, which was burnt beyond recognition and used to cover up his escape, was not his. The identity of the person whose body was found in Bester’s cell remains unknown.
The arrest of Bester and Magudumana is a major victory for South African law enforcement and sends a strong signal to other fugitives that they will be brought to justice, no matter how far they run.
