Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of Anambra State in the forthcoming governorship after winning all the 21 local government areas of the state in the just concluded governorship primary election that took place in Awka.
The election was conducted by the Chief Victor Oye faction of the party and it was supported by the only governor of the APGA, Chief Willie Obiano.
Soludo contested the primary election with Honourable ThankGod Ibe, Honourable Okwudili Ezenwankwo and Barrister Damian Okolo and scored 740 votes out of the total 792 votes cast in the election.
Honourable Okwudili Ezenwankwo came second with 41 votes, while Honourable ThankGod Ibe was third with 10 votes and Barrister Okolo Damian got seven votes.
While announcing the result at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, APGA’s Chief returning officer, Mr Olalere, who is the Vice Chairman, Southwest wing of the party said: “By the power conferred on me as the Chief returning officer of the election, I hereby declare Prof Chukwuma Soludo the duly elected candidate of APGA for the November 6 governorship election.”
The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano spoke immediately after the declaration and assured Soludo and every member of the party that the party would win the governorship election in November convincingly the way it did in 2017.
He said: “I want to commend the national working committee the state working committee for the peaceful conduct. It is exceptional. Just know that the job has just started and we are going to win 21 over 21 local government areas again as we did in 2017.”
During his acceptance speech, Soludo thanked the members of the party and promised to unveil his manifesto for the election in August.
