NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh has said his party would provide $5,000 in rental support for Canadian families if the party wins this year’s federal election.
While speaking to reporters recently, Singh also promised to “take big money out” of Canada’s housing market. He has revealed he would enact a foreign ownership tax of 20 percent on housing and make sure 500,000 affordable homes are erected within the next ten years.

He said: “Buying a home, renting a place to call home has gotten worse, not easier.
“I want to put a stop to that.”
When asked where NDP would secure the funds for the rental subsidy, Singh answered by saying he would “close loopholes” and increase taxes on wealthy companies like Amazon, which don’t pay taxes in Canada.
Also, Singh described Trudeau as “missing in action” on Canada’s housing issues, as he decided to take a day off campaigning.
Singh said: “He has been missing when it comes to helping people who are struggling with trying to find a place they can rent when it comes to people who are struggling to find a place they can buy.”
He added that he was unsure why Trudeau chose not to campaign.
