Shola Agboola, a prominent Canadian politician, philanthropist and member of the Conservative Party of Canada’s Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC), was recently honoured by Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada by presenting him the prestigious Community Service Recognition Award.
The Community Service Recognition Awards were initiated by Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada in 2015 to recognize individual contributions to the Manitoba community. The Award was bestowed to Agboola in recognition of the contributions of his Foundation, SAGA FOUNDATION Inc., during a recent Gala Dinner which took place at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Nigerian High Commissioner in Canada, Ambassador Adeyinka Asekun and other important diplomatic dignitaries were in attendance during the event.
Justice Louise Arbour, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, was also honoured with the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Award during the Gala Dinner.
After the award presentation, Agboola took to social media to thank Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada for the honour and those that came out to support him.
He wrote: “I am honoured and extremely humbled to receive the 2022 Mahatma Gandhi Community Service Award today as the Founder/CEO of SAGA FOUNDATION Inc. from the Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada for the contributions of SAGA FOUNDATION to the service of humanity.
“This award recognizes individuals who has consistently demonstrated unyielding dedication and commitment to community service, and to improving the lives of others through their time, actions, talents and humanitarian efforts.

“Sharing the same platform of honour tonight with iconic and exceptional individuals like Hon. Justice Louise Arbour, the former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Former Judge at the Supreme Court of Canada was truly humbling.
“I thank the Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada for this recognition and honour and I appreciate the efforts of all those that believe in me and continue to walk with me on this journey. Huge thank you to everyone that came out tonight especially from our community to celebrate with me tonight and congratulations to other outstanding recipients.”
