Senegal’s President Macky Sall has taken a significant step by dissolving his government through a formal decree, as outlined in an official communique.
In the communique, it was revealed that President Sall has officially terminated the functions of the ministers who constituted his government, effective as of October 6, 2023. This move was communicated to the public through a statement issued by Oumar Samba Ba, the Secretary-General of the Presidency.
Sall “terminated, by decree dated October 06, 2023, the functions of the ministers, members of the government,” said a statement from Samba Ba.
Furthermore, President Sall has decided to establish a fresh government, with the current Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, continuing to lead the way. The details of the new government’s composition are set to be disclosed in the near future, as confirmed by Ba.
It’s important to note that Amadou Ba is also a candidate representing the ruling Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) coalition in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
This development comes after President Sall’s announcement on July 3, in which he declared his decision not to seek a third term in office, setting the stage for a transitional period in Senegal’s political landscape.
