Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S9 in a familiar body but with an improved camera. The Galaxy S9 phone was launched together with the S9 Plus.
The Galaxy S9 is very similar to the hugely successful Galaxy S8 that was a big deal in 2017. In fact, the S8 was so good that it can easily be ranked as one of the best electronics that the company has ever produced.
The S9 has an efficient and attractive design that will remind you of the S8; it has curved sides, extra tall 18.5:9 screens as well as glass front and backs. The S9 screen is 5.8 inches; it has Super AMOLED panels with 2960 x 1440 pixel resolutions.
Just like other Galaxy phones, the S9 has features like microSD memory expansion, fast wireless charging as well as IP68 water and dust protection. However, the S9 has some new features like the luxurious headphone jack and an improved biometric security setting that combines facial recognition with the slower, more secure iris scanner.
What stands out about the S9 is its upgraded camera which is offered as a single lens. It has a mechanically adjustable aperture that can switch between a very bright f/1.5 to a smaller f/2.4 depending on the environment it is exposed to. The f/2.4 aperture is meant to avoid overexposure in bright scenes while the bright aperture lets in 28 percent more light than the S8’s f/1.7 lens. It is worth noting that the aperture cannot be set to values in between f/1.5 and f/2.4. You can manually control the apertures using the pro mode in the app or alternatively, the camera app is able to switch between the apertures appropriately. This is the best deal you can get from any phone since Samsung is the only one that offers two aperture options.
The S9’s 12-megapixel camera sensor also includes: upgraded multi-frame noise reduction, second-generation dual-pixel autofocus tech and the ability to record a slow-motion video at up to 960 frames per second (at 720p resolution).
The S9 is similar to last year’s S8 but it comes with enough features that show an obvious improvement. In the United States, it will be launched in different colors like blue, purple and black. Internationally, it will also come in a grey color. We expect more color options by the end of the year. This phone is likely to be well received in the market.
