The impeachment saga rocking Rivers State took a dramatic twist today as policemen shot water cannon and teargas at the Executive Governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara.
Fubara stormed the Assembly complex with his supporters today amid moves by the lawmakers to carry out an impeachment motion against him.
He walked to the House of Assembly Complex with his supporters and security aides as policemen in a water truck teargassed him.
Fubara’s supporters could be heard saying “they are shooting at the governor”, “he stood his ground.”
Later, Fubara addressed journalists at the complex claiming he was shot at.
The Governor also claimed that he has not committed any offence to warrant impeachment by the state House of Assembly.
He said: “Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment.”
23 members of the Rivers state House of Assembly, including the Speaker, at an early sitting resolved to start the impeachment process.
Also,the lawmakers suspended the majority leader of the House and some of their colleagues believed to be loyal to Fubara to create way for his impeachment.
