Regina to Host 2025 Vanier Cup for the First Time

In a groundbreaking announcement, USPORTS has revealed that the 2025 Canadian national university football championship, the Vanier Cup, will be hosted at Mosaic Stadium, the esteemed home ground of the University of Regina Rams and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Lisette Johnson-Stapley, USPORTS’ chief sport officer, expressed excitement about bringing the Vanier Cup to Regina, emphasizing the city’s fervor for football and dedicated fan base. She stated, “Regina’s status as a city where football plays a significant and beloved role in the community’s sports culture solidifies our decision. Hosting the Vanier Cup for the first time is an incredibly memorable experience, and we look forward to celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cup with the University of Regina.”

The University of Regina Rams, still seeking their first Vanier Cup win, had their sole appearance in 2000, ending in a loss to the University of Ottawa Gee Gees.

This marks Saskatchewan’s second time hosting the Vanier Cup, with Saskatoon hosting the event in 2006 at Griffiths Stadium, the University of Saskatchewan’s Huskies home field. The Huskies have claimed three Vanier Cups.

Additionally, USPORTS announced that the 2026 Vanier Cup will be held at Université Laval in Quebec City. The economic impact of the 2022 Vanier Cup in London, Ont., amounted to $2.4 million, according to USPORTS, and similar positive effects are anticipated in Regina and Quebec City.

Johnson-Stapley praised Regina and Quebec City, stating, “Celebrating the Vanier Cup’s legacy in Regina and Laval for the 2025 and 2026 championships represents a thrilling new chapter in Canadian university football. These cities embody the spirit and passion of the sport, and their selection as host cities is a testament to their vibrant communities and commitment to excellence in athletics.”

As the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and Université de Montréal Carabins contend for the 2023 Vanier Cup at Richardson Memorial Football in Kingston, Ont., this announcement sets the stage for Regina and Quebec City to take the spotlight in the coming years.
