R. Kelly’s second attempt to get bail so as not to contract the COVID-19 disease behind bars has been declined by a Judge.
The virus is spreading at Illinois’s MCC Chicago where the famous musician is being detained as he awaits his trial but the judge presiding over his case ruled that she’s confident R. Kelly’s life is not at risk.
Kelly’s lawyer initially insisted his client should be granted bail after an inmate that shares the same floor with Kelly was hospitalized with symptoms of coronavirus.
Also, the judge made it clear she wasn’t convinced Kelly was not a flight risk, as such, she didn’t want to overstretch the limits of law enforcement during the ongoing pandemic.
The Judge said: “They cannot ensure that a defendant with a history, incentive and opportunity to interfere with potential witnesses will not do so.”
