R. Kelly’s request for bail due to the tendency of him contracting corona virus has declined by Judge who labelled him a ‘danger to the community’ and a ‘flight risk’ .
This happens to be the third time R.Kelly’s request for bail on ‘health conditions’ has ben rejected by the court as he is currently being detained over allegations of child sex abuse, kidnapping and transmission of STDS.
While filing bail motion earlier this month, R. Kelly complained that he was overweight and diabetic, as such, he was more prone to Coronavirus complications. He also complained that his prison conditions was filthy and that he would soon contract the virus.
His previous attempts to get bail was dismissed on the grounds that his ‘Health’ reasons were not sufficient enogh to grant him bail.
While rejecting his bail application, Judge Donnelly said Kelly was involved in sexual abuse of minors that lasted for around 25 years and offences like these are not bailable. The judge said further that though Kelly has said that if he was granted bail, he would he would go back to Illinois for his trial the way he did during his child porn trial in 2008, the grand jury discovered likely cause that he bribed witnesses in his child porn case and she doesn’t want that to repeat itself.
While writing her decision, Judge Donelly wrote: ”The defendant is charged in Illinois and New York with extraordinarily serious crimes, for which he faces a long prison term if convicted,” Judge Donnelly wrote in her decision
“That prospect makes him a flight risk. The nature of the charges—which include crimes against minor victims, threats against potential witnesses and paying bribes to keep witnesses from cooperating—make him a danger to the community, including that he could attempt to tamper with prospective witnesses.”
