Professor Adam Abba-Aji, from Borno State Nigeria, has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Canada.
Abba-Aji is the brother of the former Senator representing Borno Central, Sen. Mohammed Abba-Aji.
He is a professor of Psychiatry and he has practised in Canada for 20 years.
He obtained MBBS from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Canada; Fellow Royal College of Psychiatry, UK; Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK.

Also, Abba-Aji has a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Maastricht, Netherlands; Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from the Smurfit Graduate School of Business, Dublin.
Before this appointment. Abba-Aji was the Medical Lead for the Integrated Youth Services Initiative in Addiction & Mental Health in Edmonton; the Zone Facility Site Chief, Addiction Mental Health, at the University of Alberta Hospital; and, the Associate Chair of Psychiatry, Clinical Affairs, with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
Abba-Aji is the first African to be appointed as the CMD of Alberta Hospital.
Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, was founded in 1923, and it is the biggest teaching hospital for addiction and mental health in Western Canada. The hospital is affiliated with the University of Alberta.
