The Vatican has given an update on Pope Francis’ health after undergoing intestinal surgery. According to the update, the Pope is responding positively and would spend a week to recover in hospital.
In a recent statement released, Matteo Bruni, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, said: “Pope Francis is in good general condition, alert, and in spontaneous breathing.”
The Vatican made it known that the recovery process is going well, and as expected, no further complications will arise.
Pope Francis went through a three-hour operation recently to correct diverticular stenosis, a procedure carried out by ten medical professionals at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. Diverticular stenosis is a condition that causes part of the intestine to narrow, subsequently preventing food from passing through, which can be very menacing if left untreated. Apart from this procedure, a part of Pope’s left colon was also removed.
Some hours before the operation, the Pope announced that he was planning on traveling to Hungary and Slovakia in the middle of September.
