A new poll has revealed that a third of Canadians back Mississauga’s proposal to request the federal government to change the lyrics of the national anthem.
The proposed resolution would ask Ottawa to alter the line that reads “O Canada! Our home and native land” to “O Canada! Our home on native land.”
Leger, a market research firm, surveyed 1,525 Canadians between June 7 and 11 to find out whether they support the proposal.
The results reveal that 33 percent of Canadians want the anthem to change while 48 percent opposed and 19 percent stated they don’t know. The margin of error cannot be assigned to the poll because online surveys are not considered truly random samples.

Recall that Juno-winning R&B singer, Jully Black, made the one-word change while performing at the NBA All-Star Game in February, to acknowledge the Indigenous peoples that inhabited the land before European settlers.
Mississauga city council has postponed its vote on a motion that would ask Ottawa to make the change.
