The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it would happily accept the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki into the party should he decide to defect to the party.
Governor Obaseki was disqualified by the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee from participating in the June 22 governorship primaries in Edo State over the allegations of discrepancies in the names and certificates he filled in the party forms.
Two other aspirants, Honourable Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and Engineer Chris Ogiemwonyi were also disqualified from the governorship race for various reasons.
While talking to journalists, the National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Obaseki had not contacted the PDP for membership.
He stressed further that Obaseki would not get an automatic ticket if he joins the party.
Ologbondiyan said: “Yes of course, we will accept him if he approaches us for membership. Joining a party is different from contesting election. These are two separate things.
“People join political parties from their wards. We are in touch with our Edo State chapter and they have not told us that the Governor had joined our party.”
