Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, is unhappy with the decision of PSG to accept a world-record transfer bid of £259million for Kylian Mbappe from Al-Hilal.
Al-Hilal are hoping to capitalize on the ongoing tussle between PSG and their star striker after Mbappe disclosed his intention to leave the French capital on a free transfer next summer.
Meanwhile, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has reiterated that the 24-year-old will not be allowed to leave for free.
Hidalgo has expressed her displeasure at the prospect of PSG losing France’s prized footballing asset to the Gulf state.
The Mayor, who took office in 2014, appeared on BFM TV recently and questioned PSG’s thinking.
She said: “They have the best player in the world and they are willing not to play with him. I admit that I don’t understand anything. You have to keep it in Paris.”
Apart from paying Mbappe £173.2m per year, Al-Hilal’s offer includes a release clause that would allow him to secure his dream move to Real Madrid next summer.
According to Relevo, Mbappe does not want to play in Saudi Arabia despite the mouth-watering offer.
The outlet claims Mbappe wants to see out the final year of his contract with the reigning French champions and is ‘willing to sit on the bench all season’ as he runs down his contract.
