Parents in Ontario Can Tender Application For One-Off Payment To Assist With Home Education During Lockdown

Parents in Ontario can now request for one-time COVID-19 payment to help in offsetting the costs associated with keeping children engaged and entertained during this lockdown.

The Support for Families portal was launched by the government today with the aim of offering cheques and direct deposits of $200 each for children of up to 12 year of age and $250 for Ontario dependants with special needs from age 0 to 21.

The $340 million plan happens to be part of a $17 billion palliative package for the economy of Ontario that the Progressive Conservative government launched recently.

As part of its effort to catalyse payments processing, government shifted to the existing Support For Parents website that was used to help families that were affected by education strikes and closure of schools between late 2019 and early 2020.

Meanwhile, the portal was at first suffered from processing issues which resulted in some parents getting excess or small money and some parents getting no payment whatsoever.

Computer glitch was later blamed as the cause of the processing issues and according to the government, the problem had been resolved.

The government said parents who had registered for the initial support payments that relates to school strikes are automatically qualified for the COVID-19 parental support and will be sent a confirmation email alongside payment within the next two weeks.
