The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has denied claims that he was arrested by operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reports on social media, Ortom was apprehended by the anti-graft agency in Makurdi on Monday.
While denying the claims in a recent statement issued by his media adviser, Terver Akase, Ortom said that he only honoured an invitation from the EFCC.

According to the statement, Ortom “was neither arrested nor detained at the EFCC Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi”.
Part of the statement read: “Contrary to insinuations in some sections of the media, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom today visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to honour the invitation of the commission.
“The former Governor has repeatedly said that he is available to respond to inquiries by anti-graft agencies as he has nothing to hide regarding his stewardship of Benue State.”
