The Chairman of Edo State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Honourable Anthony Aziegbemi has said that Obaseki and his deputy would join the party this week.
He said this while talking about the status of Governor Obaseki and his deputy who are still members of APC.
Aziegbemi said both of them were about to conclude their PDP membership and resign from APC.
He added that “Governor Obaseki and the Deputy Governor have concluded plans to join us in PDP and they are welcome.”
According to Aziegbemi, Obaseki would defect to PDP with every member of his APC faction, other well-wishers and stakeholders.
He stressed further that arrangements have been put in place for Obaseki to register as PDP member in his Oredo Ward 4 unit of the party in Edo South Senatorial district.
From PDP’s end, the National leadership of the party is planning to summon the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to grant him a waiver that would make him eligible to contest for election under the party’s platform as he has not met the minimum number of years a fresh member must spend in the party to be qualified to contest elections.
According to information gathered, PDP will push for an upward review of Edo State congress that is scheduled to hold between June 19 and June 20 when Obaseki concludes talks with the party’s stakeholders.
Part of the consultations with the stakeholders includes Obaseki reaching out to the PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
Prior to Obaseki’s defection to the PDP, the Governor and his loyalists will resign from APC.
