The Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said that the September 19 governorship election would put a final end to godfatherism in the state.
The incumbent governor who is the Peoples Democratic Party’s flag bearer said this during his ward to ward campaign tour across 10 wards in Esan North East local government area.
He said the election was very important not just for Edo state, but Nigeria at large. He added that decision had to be made as the whether the state should move forward or not.
Obaseki described Edo Central Senatorial District as a PDP enclave and appealed to members of the party and its supporters not to be scared of threats and intimidation.
He said Edo state and Nigeria did not belong to few people.
During the campaign, the chairman of Edo state PDP Campaign Council, Chief Dan Orbih, urged party members to remain vigilant during the election.
He said: “We will not sleep. We are doing everything possible to ensure that you vote and votes count.
“We will not allow anybody to subvert the will of the people.
“In this election, we will not only vote, but we must also defend our votes.”
