Oakville high school gets third threat over teacher’s attire

An Oakville high school which is at the centre of controversy over what was worn by a teacher was again threatened over the weekend.

The latest threat was established in a letter sent to students, their parents and school staff by the principal of Oakville Trafalgar High School, Meredith Cammisuli who made it known that another “threat of violence” had come to their attention.

Part of the letter read: “We want to assure you that the school is being monitored on a 24-hour basis to help ensure student and staff safety.

“Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has conducted a thorough search of the school, in accordance with the bomb threat protocol. Police have given the ‘all clear,’ confirming the school is safe at this time.”

The threat is the third of its kind received by the school within a week over the indecent clothing worn by a teacher at the school and the Halton District School Board’s decision to ignore it.

Recently, the school was placed in lockdown after receiving a bomb threat. Eventually, Oakville Trafalgar was declared safe by police and was opened the next day.

The email was shared with many media outlets by Halton police and it contained a violent message in respect of Oakville Trafalgar’s dress code and death threats to two Halton District School Board staff members and the district of Oakville.

The school got another emailed threat the following day, prompting Halton police to carry out another search of the building, which they would clear soon.

The letter sent to the school community read: “The Halton District School Board (HDSB) and Halton police continue to work together to investigate these threats and keep our schools safe, supportive and inclusive spaces to learn and work.

“Our students and staff, and all of us, have the right to learn and work in a safe environment without fear.”

Kayla Lemieux, a transgender Oakville Trafalgar High School teacher, sparked controversy and protests outside the school when she wore oversized prosthetic breasts and revealing tight tops.

In September, the Board voted to consider implementing a dress code to moderate the teacher’s revealing outfits but later backed off saying it couldn’t do anything about it.
