Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court has adjourned the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to October 21, after the Department of State Security (DSS) failed to produce him in court today.

When Nnamdi Kanu’s matter was called, Justice Binta Nyako said nothing could be done as the DSS did not produce the defendant, Nnamdi Kanu.

According to the prosecution counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, the IPOB leader was not in court owing to logistic reasons.

Justice Nyako then ordered the DSS to permit Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor to have access to his client. She also pledged to work with lawyers to the prosecution and defence and head of the security team to formulate a plan to allow Ejiofor access to Kanu who he claims he has not seen in eight days.

Justice Nyako then adjourned the case till October 21, 2021 but revealed the date could be brought back if the prosecution could obtain a fiat from the court’s Chief Judge to permit proceedings during the ongoing vacation of the court.

Kanu is facing charges that border on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms, and management of an unlawful society.
