Nigeria’s women basketball team, the D’Tigress, have carried on with their domination of basketball in Africa after winning their third consecutive AfroBasket Championship title.
D’Tigress won Mali 70 – 59 recently to emerge champions of this year’s AfroBasket Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The women’s basketball squad are now Africa’s second most successful team behind Senegal who possesses 11 AfroBasket titles.
Nigeria has now won the last three editions that took place in Bamako in 2017, Dakar in 2019 and Yaounde in 2021.
Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Sunday Dare has congratulated the team in Yaounde, Cameroon.
While congratulating the team, the Minister wrote: “Clearly now Nigeria’s dominance of the sport is indisputable. This is evidence that Nigeria’s women basketball can be ranked as a world-class programme. We have to sustain this momentum. This is remarkable, winning the Afrobasketball Championships for an unprecedented third time.
“I salute the team(D’Tigress) for their professional commitment and execution. They have done the nation proud and maintained the positive results we have achieved in sports in the last few weeks.”
