The Nigerian community in New Brunswick is mourning the death of Dr Abraham Nonyelum Onuora, who died recently at St. John Regional Hospital at the age of 73.
Onuora was a loving husband to Adanma and father to Obinna and Chidozie. He was born in Obubra, Cross River State, Nigeria on August 5, 1949 to Samson and Christiana (Ilozor) Onuora, Abraham was the fourth of eight siblings.
He completed his undergraduate degree in medicine at the University of Ibadan. After his residency in the United Kingdom, he practised as a psychiatrist in Nigeria before he relocated to Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada with his family in 1991.

Abraham’s life was distinguished by his love for God, generosity, kindness and empathy. He was a respected psychiatrist at the Saint John Regional Hospital for almost two decades. Also, he had a private practice where he was known by his patients as attentive, patient, and compassionate.
As a longstanding Nigerian immigrant to New Brunswick, he was involved in helping fellow Nigerians integrate into the community. His home became home to many international students all through the years. He loved gardening, talking about politics and spending time with family. He had a distinctive sense of humour and spirited laughter that filled the room.
He will be buried on November 5, 2022 at St. James the Less Church, 1760 Rothesay Rd.
