The nomination of the aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, as National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been rejected by the senate.
Onochie was rejected after the senate resumed its sitting and the rejection came after the senate considered a report by the senate committee on INEC stated that her nomination contravened federal character principle.
The Chairman of the Committee, Kabir Gaya cited Section 14 (1) 3 of the constitution and pointed out that her zone has a current commissioner.
