Nigerian government to Peter Obi: Accepting grains from Ukraine does not make Nigeria a failed country

“Tinubu will be disqualified and heaven will not fall’-Nigerians react as Tinubu’s lawyers warn tribunal over his disqualification because he did not score 25% in FCT

The Federal government has disclosed that accepting grains from Ukraine does not mean Nigeria is a failed country.

Recall that Ukraine recently donated 25,000 tons of wheat to Nigeria, in an effort to tackle the emergency food crisis affecting over 1.3 million people in northeast Nigeria.

While reacting to the news in a statement, Obi said as laudable as the kind gesture of Ukraine is, it speaks volumes for Nigerians as a people endowed with all needed human and natural resources, that a country officially fighting a brutal war of national survival with Russia, is generous and kind enough with their food supplies to help Nigerians who are officially at peace.

He stressed that while Ukraine is still able to feed itself despite fighting a war, Nigeria which is at peace cannot feed its citizens because of bad leaders.

Reacting to Obi’s comment, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, argued that Nigeria getting food aid from Ukraine does not in any way mean that Nigeria is a failed state.

The Minister said: “Egypt gets about 60 percent of its grains from Ukraine. The fact that Egypt gets about 60 percent of its grains from Ukraine does not make it a failed state.

“The fact that we are having challenges at the moment does not make Nigeria a failed state.

“Therefore, accepting grains from Ukraine does not make Nigeria or Egypt a failed country.

“It is a normal thing because countries exist to depend on one another.’’
