Nigeria finished second at the 13th African Games after winning 47 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze medals in 25 sporting events at the competition.
Nigeria won its highest medals in weightlifting as the team garnered 32 medals; 16 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals. In athletics, which was the country’s second most productive sport at the Games, Nigeria won 22 medals.
Also, Nigeria raked in 12 medals in wrestling, eight gold medals in boxing and 13 medals in arm wrestling.
Egypt led the medals table with 189 medals, comprising 101 gold, 46 silver and 42 bronze while South Africa came third on the medals table with 106 medals; 32 gold, 32 silver and 42 bronze medals.
