The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists, (NAAT), have announced their decision to commence strike on September 11.
The development is in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Samson Ugwoke, president of SSANU, who is also the chairman of JAC made the declaration at a press conference in Abuja Wednesday evening.
He disclosed that the nationwide strike would be total and comprehensive.
Ugwoke said: “During the strike, there shall be no provision of services, no matter how skeletal.
“Concessions shall not be granted while all our members are to stay at home till further notice, unless as directed by JAC through their respective presidents.”
Recall that United Labour Congress (ULC) had threatened to join the industrial action embarked upon by ASUU if the federal government failed to meet the demands of the lecturers within two weeks.
Addressing the press after its Central Working Committee meeting in Lagos, the leadership of the union also demanded the immediate payment of all the salary arrears of Nigerian workers at all levels of government
