According to a new intelligence report by the United States intelligence agencies released recently, the upcoming 2020 presidential elections will be influenced by China to favor Joe Biden while the Russian will favor a Trump re-election.
According to the report, China and Russia are in position to intervene with proceedings of the election to ensure that their favored candidate seals the White House position.
The report reveals that China want to axe ‘unpredictable’ Trump as ties between Washington and Beijing have ebbed during Donald Trump’s first term in office due to the Coronavirus pandemic and other issues while Russia wants to disavow Joe Biden based on their own interests.
The Leader of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, William Evanina said: “Ahead of the 2020 US elections, foreign states will continue to use covert and overt influence measures in their attempts to sway US voters’ preferences and perspectives, shift US policies, increase discord in the United States, and undermine the American people’s confidence in our democratic process.”
Evanina also disclosed that tactics that could be adopted, as well as disinformation and propaganda spread which include attempts to compromise equipment used in the election by altering result in their favour to create a false impression that election results have been doctored.
While speaking to congress, Evanina also disclosed that another player in the forthcoming elections was Iran. She added that the Islamic Republic plans to spread disinformation to split the country and tamper with the chances of Trump to stay in power.
Meanwhile, the campaign team of Trump and Biden have both debunked soliciting for foreign support.
Biden’s campaign Senior Advisor, Tony Blinken says Biden “has led the fight against foreign interference for years, and has refused to accept any foreign materials intended to help him in this election,” adding that this is “something that Donald Trump and his campaign have repeatedly failed to do.”
Also, Trump’s reelection campaign spokesman, Tim Murtaugh, said: “We don’t need or want foreign interference, and President Trump will beat Joe Biden fair and square.”
