The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has raised alarm over increase in deaths caused by hospitals’ rejection of patients in the country.
The Presidential Task Force Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, lamented that hospitals were still rejecting patients that do not have coronavirus disease despite the plea and sensitization by Ministry of Health. The SGF made the lamentation during the task force press conference yesterday in Abuja.
Also during the press conference, the Director General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, raised his concerns over increasing rapid test kits black market in Nigeria.
According to Ihekweazu, some organisations are offering for sale “what they call antibody tests.” He, however warned that such “antibody tests” could not produce valid COVID-19 results.
Currently, Nigeria has 8,733 COVID-19 patients and 112 isolation centres across 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory. COVID-19 is being tested in 29 laboratories.
