Former Nigerian men’s football team captain, Mikel Obi, has predicted that Super Eagles of Nigeria will lift the 2023 African Cup of Nations which will take place in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria was drawn in Group A of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) against hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

The draw took place recently at the Parc Des Expositions in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Super Eagles will face Equatorial Guinea in their opening fixture while Ivory Coast will battle Guinea-Bissau on January 13.

Nigeria won the tournament for the third time in 2013 with Mikel as the captain and will seek to win its fourth after recording success at the 1980 and 1994 editions.

While talking to CAF online recently, Mikel expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will emerge victorious and bring the trophy back to Nigeria.

He said: “This is coming home. The tournament is coming home, AFCON 2023 is coming home to Nigeria.”
