Nigerian-born Michael Situ has been elected as the new Deputy Mayor of Southwark, London. Situ, a Lawyer, was born in Iwo, Osun State and later relocated to the United Kingdom.

While reacting to his appointment, Situ tweeted: Honoured to be appointed The Deputy Mayor of #Southwark for the municipal year. I look forward to working with the Mayor in shinning a light on the amazing work done by residents, groups and charities in the borough. My door is open to all. #UnitedtoServe”

Meanwhile, the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has congratulated Michael Situ on his historic appointment.

Oluwo in a congratulatory message released by Chief Press Secretary to Oluwo, Alli Ibraheem, described Michael Situ as one of the resilient and result-oriented sons of Iwoland.

He said: “I congratulate my son, Michael Kayode Situ, on his recent attainment of Deputy Mayor of Southwark, London.

“I extend the felicitation to his immediate family in Iwo (The Olowes), Iwoland, Osun State, Nigeria and the black race in general. I’ve no doubt in his ability to make us proud, even beyond his father, Tayo Situ, who passed away as duly Elected mayor in 2011 may his soul rest in perfect peace.

“Michael Situ is a pride, resilient and result-oriented product of Iwo whose administrative prowess will add more value to Southwark.

“As you take up this assignment, I pray for a pearl of wisdom greater than that of Solomon to do better and wonderfully serve your municipal than your late father who was equally our pride. God will continue to guide and lead you through. Accept the assurance of my best wishes, always.”
