A man in Germany was recently attacked by his pet dog who bit off his penis and ate it.
According to Police, authorities were alerted early on Tuesday morning over a dog’s constant barking in the man’s home at around 2am.
The first responders heard groans of pain coming from inside his house in Herne, north-west Germany upon their arrival.
They broke down the door and saw the 66-year-old man and his dog.
Police immediately realized the man’s life was in danger, so he was rushed to hospital.
According to Bild, the man’s penis and ‘an instrument of the crime’ has not been recovered from the scene so far.
Also, the victim has been unable to provide information himself owing to his health.
Officials reveal that the most likely hypothesis under consideration is that the dog was the cause of the man’s injuries.
While talking to Bild, First Police Chief Inspector Frank Lemanis told Bild said the man was put into an artificial coma when he got to the hospital.
Lemanis, from the Bochum police, said: “The man has been put into an artificial coma by the doctors. We hope we can interview him soon.
“One hypothesis, of course, is that the dog, which is about the size of a Jack Russell terrier, bit off the penis and ate it. The wound could also be a bite wound.
“But it’s also possible a sex accident or a crime.”
Though the incident happened on Monday night, police are just going public with the sensitive case in an appeal for witnesses.
Bild also reported that a murder squad has picked up the case in a bid to “clear up the crime, which has so far been completely open.”
