Nigerian reggae music star, Majekodunmi Fasheke popularly known as Majek Fashek has died. He died of cancer at the age of 57.
Fashek who carved a niche for himself in Nigeria’s music industry with his massive 1988 hit track ‘Send Down the Rain’ has been plagued by cancer in recent years.
His death was announced by his longtime manager Umenka Uzoma Day on his Instagram page on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
While announcing Fashek’s death, Umenka wrote: “Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker.
“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”
Majek began his music career in the early 80s with a group known as Jastix. He later went solo and in 1988, he released his debut single Prisoner of Conscience.
Majek was born in Benin-City and he was among surviving Reggae music icons in Nigeria until death took him away.
