As Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi enters the final week of his contract with the Spanish club, it has been confirmed that he will sign contract extension till 2023.
The signing of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay has convinced the Argentine playmaker that Barcelona are ambitious and has fiven him the urge to extend his contract with the Spanish giants.

The confirmation was made by transfer window specialist Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano. While confirming this, Fabrizio disclosed that an agreement had been reached between Barcelona and Messi with only a few details of the contract yet to be finalised. He disclosed further that Messi will sign a new contract that would keep him at the club till 2023.
Fabrizio tweeted: “Lionel Messi will extend his contract with Barcelona until June 2023, all parties involved have no doubt – but there are still some clauses to be fixed in the contract ‘structure’. #Messi
“…that’s why there’s no official announcement yet. But it’s just a matter of time.”
This development came after Barca president Joan Laporta said he had been working tirelessly to get Messi to extend his contract. Once the few details are to finalised, the deal becomes offcial.
