The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in this year’s presidential election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and president-elect, Bola Tinubu, recently met for four hours in Paris, France.
As reported by The Cable, the centre of the discussion was the potential involvement of Kwankwaso in the in-coming administration as Tinubu aims to form a “government of national unity” — which means giving opposition parties certain positions.
Also, issues around the election of the legislative leaders ahead of the June 13 inauguration of the 10th national assembly were discussed during the meeting.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has zoned the two top positions in the two chambers but some of its members are against the formula and have threatened to form an alliance with the opposition to frustrate the arrangement.
Though APC has 59 Senators and 175 members of the House of Representatives, NNPP has two Senators and 19 House of Representatives members.
As things stand, a simple majority of 56 Senators and 181 Rep members are needed to elect the top two leaders in the respective chambers.
