Kim Kardashian: Going plant-based cured my psoriasis

Kim Kardashian has been talking about living with psoriasis since she was diagnosed with it in 2011. In 2019, she gave her fans a different insight with her struggles on Poosh, her sister’s website.

Kim shared a photo of her face flare-up and wrote: “Earlier this year is when it got extremely bad – it covered my whole face and a majority of my entire body.

“Today I’m sharing with Poosh my journey with the autoimmune conditions psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, including what’s worked for me and how I’ve adjusted my life since being diagnosed.

“It’s been 13 years since I experienced my first psoriasis flare-up…. I am the only child my mom passed down her autoimmune issue to. Lucky me, lol.”

Kim said she was 25 when she had her first psoriasis flare-up. She said: “I got a common cold, and since psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, this triggered it. It was all over my stomach and legs.”

She has been living with the condition that has continued to plague her ever since but she revealed to her followers that she doesn’t attempt to cover it anymore. She added: “I have that one patch on my right leg that is the most visible. I don’t even really try to cover it that much anymore. Sometimes I just feel like it’s my big flaw and everyone knows about it, so why cover it? After this many years, I’ve really learned to live with it.”

She recently took to the digital pages of Poosh to talk about how turning plant-based has helped her manage the skin condition, which causes red and crusty patches of skin with scales that are silvery. Psoriasis is triggered by a problem with the immune system, which makes the body produce too many skin cells.

In an article titled HOW GOING PLANT-BASED HAS HELPED KIM’S PSORIASIS,  Kourtney’s interview with Kim explained: “Back in 2019, Kim got candid with us about her journey with two autoimmune conditions: psoriasis, which causes red, itchy patches on the skin, and psoriatic arthritis, which is similar to arthritis and can stem from psoriasis. Since August is Psoriasis Awareness Month, we wanted to catch up with her and see how things were going. She graciously answered our questions, sharing that eating plant-based is one thing that helps immensely.”

Kim said at first, she didn’t go plant-based to help with her psoriasis but was interested in the lifestyle after she watched documentaries during quarantine. She explained how it made her more conscious about how she treats her body and said: “It’s made me more mindful about how what I put in my body affects me, not just psoriasis but also my mood, my stress levels, my energy, everything.

I’ve [also] found that putting ointment or cream on the bad areas and then wrapping them in Saran Wrap helps. But obviously, that can only be done in certain areas.”

When Kourtney asks her “what advice would you give someone who is struggling with self-confidence stemming from psoriasis?”,  Kim answered: “You have to get to a place where you just feel comfortable and own it. Be able to realize it’s a part of you.”
