Nigerian comedian, Julius Agwu has averred that his marriage with his ex-wife, Ibiere Maclayton, failed because he did not seek divine guidance before marrying her.
In a recent interview with Punch, the stand-up comedian openly discussed the challenges that led to the collapse of their marriage as well as his battle with a brain tumor.
Agwu disclosed that he did not consult God before marrying Ibiere Maclayton, stressing that their union was marked by financial prosperity but lacked spiritual grounding.
In his words, financial affluence attracted Ibiere to marry him, but when confronted with health challenges, the dynamics shifted, and his ex-wife chose to end the marriage.
He said “I believe that any marriage without God would not last. When I married my wife, I did not even consult God. Some of us got married when there was so much money, and at that time, practically every girl wanted to be with us. But, after marriage, if anything happens to one, they would say, I don’t want this man again. I suggest that people should consult God first before getting married”.
Harping on his journey to recovery after his failed marriage, Julius said that his first marriage taught him a vital lesson, noting that he might consider getting married again sometime.
He said, “Life is very good and enjoyable now. When that (separation) happened, I was fighting with a lot; thinking about my sickness and my family. I thank God, because I know everything happens for a reason. When there is life, there is hope. But, a time will come when I might reconsider marriage.
“The truth is that, one’s health comes first. I have been low-key, because I had a brain tumour surgery in 2015 in the United States of America. I thank God that I am alive. Many people who had that type of surgery did not survive it. I believe God loves me because of my good heart towards everyone.”
It could be recalled that in 2022, Julius Agwu confirmed that he is no longer married to his wife, Ibiere Maclayton, revealing that she told him that she was tired of their marriage and had to leave.
