Canadian striker Jonathan David looks to have given Manchester United Football Club the green light to sign him in the January transfer window.
Jonathan has had an impressive season so far in Ligue 1, scoring nine goals in 12 matches. He has been scoring goals regularly since he moved to in France, winning the Ligue 1 title in his first season in France.
His great performances over the past three seasons have seen him linked with a move away from Lille. Manchester United were one of the clubs that were interested in him over the summer window as Erik Ten Hag wanted to improve his options.
Though the deal did not happen, Ten Hag may go back to the market for an attacker in January as Manchester United need a striker.
And David has fueled the belief that he could switch to Old Trafford by revealing he will look to leave Lille at some point in the future. Though he still has three years left on his contract, he admitted that he wants to play for a “massive club”.
During a recent interview with Sky Sports News, Jonathan said: “Yeah, you know for me, I was always watching European football on TV. So, for me that was always the goal. For me it was, I only wanted to go to Europe.

“The next step is always growing, having more ambition, a bigger club I think. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life. So I think if I had the chance to do it, I’ll go for it for sure.
“I think they’re two different leagues [the Premier League and La Liga]. But I think I can adapt to both for sure. And I think with the experience that I’ve had here in France, it will help me a lot if I need to adapt to some place else a lot faster. So yeah I think both leagues suit me.”
David joined Lille from Gent in 2020 and feels that the experience he gained while settling into a new league will help him if he moves on. Also, he preparing to represent Canada at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, where he hopes the Maple Leafs can do well.
He said: “Adjusting to life was the easiest thing because I came from Gent which is 45 minutes away from here. So life hasn’t changed for me at all, even easier because people speak French here.
“For me, it’s my first language so for me it’s very easy. I think just adjusting to the league because Ligue 1 is a very physical league with a lot of athleticism from players, fast and strong everywhere. So I think that was the biggest difficulty for me when I came here.
“You don’t want to go into a World Cup saying ‘oh we’ve just qualified automatically’. You want to prove that you’re a good footballing country, that you have good players and a good team. I think qualifying for this World Cup, we showed that. We can show that it’s because we’re good and we’ve proved it. There’s different ways of looking at it.”
