The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, at the weekend said that job creation and youth empowerment has been ranked as part of the top priorities of President Buhari’s led administration.
The minister while receiving Mr Niyi Oladele John on a coutesy visit; stated that the issue of insecurity was not peculiar to Nigeria but that it is a problem cut across Africa, adding that the situation could be worsened by youths not having gainful employment.
His words:
“The thinking here in the Ministry of Labour and Employment and this government is that the issue of youth employment and job creation should be top on our agenda and that is why Mr. President has decided to strengthen the ministry and its agencies, especially the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
“There are a lot of programmes under the ministry and its parastatals that are basically aimed at empowering our youths by making sure that they acquire basic skills to enable them to survive on their own.”
Keyamo, therefore, advised the youth group to generate data that will show youths with skills.
According to him, the data would assist the federal government to identify those to train and empower.
