Nigerian MMA fighter, Israel Adesanya won Brazil’s Paulo Costa with a second-round TKO win to retain his UFC middleweight title. The fight took place recently in Abu Dhabi.
The 31-year-old undefeated middleweight champion destroyed Costa’s front leg with multiple kicks to silent the Brazilian in the first round of the main event on Fight Island.
During the second round, Adesanya’s high kick opened up Costa’s face before he finished him with punches. Costa stumbled backward and was not able to recover as he was left bruised on the canvas.
The historic win is Adesanya’s 20th professional MMA victory and he still remains the world’s best middleweight at a perfect 20-0.
After he defeated Costa, Adesanya said: “I’ve been telling you guys, but everyone thinks … like Roy Jones said, ‘Y’all must have forgot’ because of what happened last time. I had to remind the world who’s the best.”
He also called out Jared Cannonier for his next fight during his post-match interview.
He said: “I already messaged Jared Cannonier, he is a hell of a dude, I love his energy, I said, you destroy Robert Whittaker, you are next. He’s the one I want to fight next.”
